WENDY POLSTEIN
Owner and Lead Designer
From a young age, Wendy would go about the house moving, adjusting, and making things work in the space. Her mother would move items just a bit to see if she noticed (she always did). Maybe it was an inborn sense of feng shui, and after all these years, she's still tinkering and moving things around.
Wendy graduated from Endicott College and Syracuse University with degrees in Interior Design–Environmental Architecture and Art History, and has been an Art Director, Designer and in Sales and Marketing for over 25 years. From designing homes, decorating interiors, and art direction, she is always looking to make things not only beautiful but functional as well. Most recently, she is the visual and graphic designer and community liaison for The Press Hotel and UNION Restaurant, a boutique hotel in Portland, Maine.
Wendy lives in Yarmouth, Maine with her family, and when she's not moving things around she enjoys guiding (she is a Registered Maine Guide) skiing, paddle boarding, skeet shooting, and working on finding the next best antique shop and restaurant in Maine.

My family and I recently built a new home so the home improvement was great… moving from an 1837 Federal style historic home to a “pretty good” house with double walled construction, european windows and a heating and cooling system that is a 180 from our former home… warm and comfy!

House made Margarita… fresh squeezed lime, pink grapefruit juice, fresh orange, Hornitos Plata Tequila, simple syrup and a honey salted rim.

That is a tough question as I listen to music old and new from rock, blues, reggae, rap and jazz, but if I had a choose a group that hits me with nostalgia everytime it would be Steely Dan.

I always have on hand a few small Judy Segal porcelain song bird sculptures. These one of kind birds or sheep each seem to have their own personality and I like to give them as a gift to special people in my life.

My kids, my dog, my family and of course tile, lighting, flooring, furniture and rugs.
CHLOE SCHUNDLER
Associate Designer
As a child, Chloe grew up in Maine as close to the design industry as possible. Her parents own and operate their own home furnishings store and there were very few dinner table conversations not centered around furniture and how to use it to beautify a home. From contrasting welts, to foam densities, to fabric choices, Chloe’s a pro on it all.
To further her education, Chloe went to High Point University where she received degrees in Event Coordination and Visual Merchandise Design. While in High Point, North Carolina (the furniture capitol of the world) Chloe took every job and opportunity she could to learn more about interiors and grow her designer’s eye for fashion and style.
Chloe is currently building her forever home on the coast in Georgetown, Maine with her husband and their little cavalier Skipper. Her greatest joy in life is traveling and she is known by her family and friends to be constantly on the go from one airport to the next.

I find powder rooms to be the most fun to decorate! They are typically small spaces with limited walls to work with allowing for an interesting challenge. They also give the opportunity to do a fun pop of color or texture. In a powder room you can go out on a whim and be creative and fun.

Like Wendy, I am also a margarita kinda gal! So often the base alcohol in a cocktail gets “lost” amongst the other ingredients but tequila is one of those wonderful spirits that has a kick and doesn’t let you forget it. My go to flavor is blood orange with a sweet sugar rim.

If I were to put my aesthetic into words it would lean modern coastal farmhouse with a touch of victorian charm. I love neutral colors mixed with potent textures and can get stuck scrolling through design inspiration on Pinterest for longer than I care to admit! I’m also a sucker for funky wallpaper and contrasting trim.

Asian is my absolute go to cuisine. I love all types from sushi to ramen. I even had Thai food served for dinner at my wedding reception!
CLARKSON WOODWARD
Plant Designer
Growing up in a family with a long line of gardeners, it was a foregone conclusion that Clarkson would find herself eventually working with plants. After a busy office career, she landed back where she started as a kid- finding plants for the right space and creating an environment that they can thrive in.
Her garden has been photographed for DownEast and been on garden tours, but her favorite work is with containers. Containers big and small, can make a significant impact on patios and decks and you can find her work outside of some of Portland’s hotels and homes known for their green spaces.
Clarkson has joined the team at Quill Design to help with the increasing demand for all things green!

I recently moved and it was a cold mid winter weekend, so my challenge was moving houseplants to their new home without freezing them. So far they seem like they made it without a problem!

I‘ve always wanted to be one of those people who had a simple drink choice- something right from the bottle into a glass- no fuss, maybe an ice cube and a wedge of citrus. I found it when I had my first sip of the delicious tequila, Don Julio 70 that someone gave me as a gift.

This week it’s Davallia fejeensis or the Rabbit Foot Fern. It’s a frilly, delicate looking fern, but it’s a surprisingly easy houseplant- it likes a little mist and to dry out between waterings. They seem to be more forgiving than some other ferns people try indoors. We Mainers are sometimes challenged in the wintertime with dry houses and houseplants liking humidity so a plant that will stick with us in the hard months is a favorite to me.

My family lived in Greece when I was very little and I have been lucky to go back and spend time there. That Mediterranean tapas dining style is my favorite and if there is tzatziki on anything, I will love it!
